Original Mary Ann
Generally, the TV show creators have somebody specific at the top of their priority list for a part, yet this actor refuses the role. Therefore, creators go down their list to the best alternative. In actual fact, Dawn Wells wasn’t really the first choice. They would have preferred Mary Ann to be played by 60’s sensation Raquel Welch. Actually, many people think Welch’s future career was saved by her turning down the role because the Gilligan’s Island cast couldn’t get parts later. The actors were always associated with the show’s characters.

Talking about what the crew thought about cast members, one person, beyond any doubt, established a long-lasting impression on everybody – Tina Louise. We’ll talk more about that later. Evidently, while Gilligan’s Island was being filmed, she had the crew and the cast make tons of uncommon exceptions for her. Some part of this was because she thought she was led to believe something else about the part of Ginger on the show. She claimed her agent said the role was that of a film star stranded on an island. Thus, she never made the realization that the show wasn’t exclusively about her characters’ adventures.
