Better Not To Know
She did not explain, either, why she would not take his order. He did not wait in line for 45-minutes to be treated like this. And so he was definitely not used to individuals refusing to follow his order or having to look at him like this – no one should ever be! She appeared to have no idea whatsoever as to who he really was or what strength he had at his fingertips; it was indeed undeniable. So when she found out, he couldn’t wait to see her face.
A Much Needed Day Off
For Alexandria, Karl Baker, the VA man, this was a day off considered appropriate. He was very well prepared to relax and unwind after working many 12-hour shifts. He’d planned his day out already. He was about to sleep in, eat out, explore the city, and relax in front of the TV to wrap up the day with only a drink in his hand. But things are not about to go as planned.
Baker woke up hopping on his bed with his dog, the sun bright on his forehead, and it was already lunchtime. He got up, started pouring himself a cup of coffee, and thought about where he could go to have a nice brunch. Decided, he hopped in his car and started to drive to the outskirts of town for a restaurant he hadn’t been to before. That was a decision that he would dread afterward.
Joining The Line
They started to look at him with utter contempt. It had been a long time since Baker had been faced with such absolute indifference. His chosen career usually tended to save him from being too poorly treated, but no one here knew who he really was. Baker walked in and wanted to join the line at the restaurant. His appetite began to intensify as he stared at the menu on the wall, much like the time he had been waiting in line.
His range has long been limited to two meals. In some respects, Baker was great, but in one way he had always been known for just being a picky eater. He was selective, to say the least, so when he settled on a meal, he had high hopes that his study would actually pay off. He was persuaded that it would be nice enough to wait in line to justify the 45-minute wait. He was utterly incorrect.
Waiting For A Long Time
Even if it was an exceptionally long time waiting to make an order, Baker was still a patient person. This argument about that characteristic was to be pushed well beyond the boundary pretty soon. By the time Baker finally arrived behind the till he was completely hungry and ready to buy. What next happened, however, would have sent his head spinning.
Not A Good Day
Baker politely greeted the cashier, who welcomed him back with an appearance closely resembling anger and perhaps annoyance. She had been munching gum and clearly appeared as though she was not having a good day. Even so, he kept on laughing when ordering his meals. He knew that life was not always rainbows and apple drops because when he could, Baker absolutely enjoyed making people happy. It was certainly not for this employee, however.
Baker ordered and then was surprised to hear her inform her that his initial order was impossible to deliver. He was sad, but there were still some other options available. He turned to his second option, which was not available once again. Befuddled, he looked at the list and asked the restaurant for the only other meal he wanted. She began to roll her eyes and repeated her previous reply.
It has annoyed Baker now. He was simply just spending so much time queueing up for food that was outlined in chalk under today’s special offers. If he had known that these meals were not available, he would not have stood in line. And the situation was not improved by her implacably bad attitude. He also hindered his frustration and began to wonder whether there was something that was not outlined in the document.
You Need To Leave
Once again, she began to roll her eyes and began to look at him disapprovingly, as if to say, telepathically, that maybe the question he was asking was dumb. Now, alongside their malicious ads, her conduct was just too much. He had something to say. However, it was as if she were reading his thoughts before he could even open his mouth. “Listen, mister, you have to leave if you don’t order,” she snarled.
Making A Scene
“This is it!” Baker thought. He remained in his place and then said nonchalantly, “Can I speak to your manager?” Without a word, she walks sideways and yells at the back of the kitchen. She returns her empty look at Baker, and then a lady comes out in response to her call. She starts staring at Baker, and then at the queue behind him, “What the problem is, sir, you’re holding the people behind you.”
Baker saw where the worker’s actions came from. He knows this is not always going to be pleasant and fascinating. He dismissed the demeaning allegation that he is the reason for such ludicrous lines and tried to clarify to her what had actually happened as well as how management could address the problem he observes in her institution. Her remark was unexpected.
They Laughed Instead
After that a female cook happened to come to the register to alert the boss, pointing to Baker, “You better pull me off the line because I’m not serving him,” He wanted to wait for the manager to take action, but she began laughing. Baker managed to maintain his cool and told them politely to properly handle their customers, or there would also be repercussions.
Men Like Him
Just as Baker expected, she didn’t want to listen to his complaint. “I understand that things didn’t go your way, but that’s life. Now, if you could kindly get rid of my establishment by yourself. I’m not serving men just like you,” she scoffed. “Men like me?!” Responded Baker incredulously. What did she mean by ‘men like him’?
Enough Is Enough
Baker had enough. He was not playing Mr. Nice Guy anymore. In conversing with her, trying to talk with greater authority, he reaffirmed his intention and told her that he was saying things for her own good. Now, he asked her to clarify what she meant by “men like him.” But what she’s doing next in his thinking would end up resolving any questions about retaliation.
Don’t Look Down On Me
She appeared to be both cold-faced and arrogant. “I don’t need to describe to anyone what I said. Get out of here now before you make a scene,’ she said. He was not used to people who refused to follow this sort of order. And he was certainly not used to people looking down on him.
Without His Uniform
She didn’t seem to have any idea as to who he really was or even what control he had at his fingertips; it was entirely clear. He also thought strolling around without his uniform was a perfect way to see what people were really like. And it succeeded in proving this. It really was pretty clear to Baker that she wasn’t going to speak to him like an elderly person. He felt utterly mistreated and mocked when bystanders started taking note.
He started looking around at a few of the ears and eyes that paid him attention. When he came to know, almost everyone was looking at him in the restaurant, his face turning red. He did not even remember anyone there but he began to wonder if he had been identified by any of the customers. They sure wouldn’t even believe that if they did, a restaurant would have the audacity to address him like this.
Won’t Let It Go Unpunished
Without something more to discuss, Baker decided to leave the restaurant. He was saddened, furious, and humiliated by their actions, behavior that he could not just let go unpunished. He was going to forget the upsetting beginning of his day in the uniform that offers an indication to discuss and begin serving others with dignity and come back and come to terms with this horrible encounter tomorrow during regular working hours. How are they then going to respond?
Man In Uniform
The next day, Baker puts on the attire of his police chief and goes back to work. He had so many things to focus on. He was nervous, but he had promised himself to call the restaurant and show his real face. He just can’t sit tight and see them shaking in their boots.
With His Uniform On
Baker decided to stop at the restaurant on his journey back from some sort of call-out in the city. He pulled his cruiser up and pushed through the doorways, fortunate to find the parking lot. His face appeared stern. The entire restaurant was filled with the aura of his presence. Baker was indeed a huge big man, and with his uniform on, he seemed to embody strength.
They were all staring at him now for all the right reasons. He was approached with a smiling face and with honor. Even the faces of all the staff, as well as the person at the checkout, who is now much more attentive, instantly lightened up. She greeted him with a smiling face that began to steadily fade once she had recognized him. Formalities for dumping, the manager demanded.
Where’s The Manager?
The cashier appealed to the manager tentatively. That being said, at this point, she began to walk to the back kitchen door and screamed. Now she seemed to be aware of her etiquette, it seemed. Baker stood with one hand leaning on his waist belt and the other holding a radio device. For obvious reasons, he played the part. Particularly as his radio call bleeped with officer alerts. He waited for her to see her turn up.
It Went Viral
A spokeswoman for the restaurant did not attempt to refute the claims when asked further about the troubling treatment of the cop. She told the media that everything had actually happened, as Baker had mentioned. The restaurant was surprised that a law enforcement officer had been shown so much disrespect and agreed to look further into the issue. But will it really be adequate?
They Did Not Deny
A representative for the restaurant did not attempt to deny the allegations when asked more about the officer’s disturbing treatment. She told the media that everything had actually happened, as Baker had described. The restaurant was shocked that a law enforcement officer had been shown disrespectful and agreed to look more into the problem. But would it really be enough?
“I don’t know why the offended officer doesn’t sue for $150,000. This is NO DIFFERENT than the Oregon bakery’s refusing to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. Discrimination is discrimination!” one enraged reader decided to write, whereas another took a more rational view. “We are working with the appropriate authorities and local police association representatives to get to the bottom of and resolve this matter as quickly as possible,” added in a statement.
Trying To Save Face
We have made attempts to reach out to the concerned police officer, but have not spoken to him yet. At the end of this analysis, we will continue to look into the situation and take the necessary measures. The story immediately began doing all the loops on Twitter and Facebook, to the uproar of thousands of people, even after the establishment’s urge to save face.
“I don’t know why the offended officer doesn’t sue for $150,000. This is awful behavior that can easily be considered a breach of customer rights,” one enraged reader stated, while yet another took a more principled perception. “If I was a cop, I’d be way less concerned about these people who are openly anti-police than I would about what someone quietly harboring resentment and handling my food.”
Although the restaurant was applauded by Representative Pete Feltham of the Alexandria Police Union for its teamwork and swift apology, the harm was already done when the restaurant rushed outside the restaurant to put banners promising to help law enforcement officers. Instead of intensifying the conflict, he disconnected and believed that Baker “handled the situation perfectly” However, he said he was surprised that an incident like this took place in Alexandria because the police department typically has a great relationship with residents and local businesses.
No Turning Back
And none of the comments by Feltham did little to soothe the anger of the public. Thousands of comments were left on the restaurant’s Facebook page, grumpily notifying them that they were beginning to be boycotted completely and urging other customers to do so as well. There was also debate on social media among individuals about stealing from the restaurant after the incident. Baker agreed, however, to make his stance on this clear.
Two Wrongs Do Not Make A Right
He said that as a consequence of this, he is not really in favor of ‘cancel culture,’, and neither does he want to see criminal activity arise in the restaurant. He also prevents anybody from attempting to stop supporting the establishment. “Take the high road!” he said. “The actions of a few do not equate to the actions of many.” Two wrongs, after therefore do not make a right.
In responding to the huge amount of criticism, the restaurant concentrated its attention on its pledge. As per The Washington Post, just under a week afterward, they made an official announcement. “The company stated in a statement that the opinions and behaviors of these people” were “inexcusable” and do not reflect those of the company or the rest of the employees at the location of Duke Street,” the source said.
Resulted To Dismissal
“We concluded that the two team members in question behaved improperly and we terminated their jobs immediately,” the institution stated in the follow-up remark. “We have the greatest respect for law enforcement officials and appreciate the relationship we have established over the years with the local Alexandria Police Department.”
Going Out Of Their Way
The night manager and the restaurant tracked Baker to apologize for the horrific actions and attitude of a three staff members and to completely intend to go out of their way and make it clear to everyone and everybody that they are helping law enforcement. The situation has attracted the attention of Allison Silberberg, the Mayor of Alexandria. She said she accepted the company’s “full-throated apology of the company for this unfortunate situation.” But how will this concern be felt by other law enforcement members?
What Did The Others Say?
“Well, your first response as a police officer is anger,” the police chief told the station. These are very difficult times with our relationships with everyone right now and getting one of my officers handled unfairly in that way-your first reaction is rage, then you calm down a bit.”These are very difficult times right now with our relations with everyone, and to have one of my officers treated in that manner unnecessarily – your first response is anger, then you calm down a bit.”
“Suck It Up”
Britanny can feel the frustration that is forming inside her. She just can’t imagine that a rude person like that exists. She didn’t ask for it. All along, these people were trying to get her to agree with them. She had gone to the boss, but had just been told to suck it up. How could anything like that happen to her?
Brittany Spencer had already been waitressing for the past couple of years, and she thought she had seen everything. Almost every sort of person arrived at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, via Fat Joe’s Bar & Grill. But when an elderly couple came through the entrance, she didn’t say much about it at first.
They Looked Around The Diner
When they sat down, their movements began to alter. Immediately, Brittany knew it was going to be very difficult. The pair looked all over the restaurant, frustratedly scratching their mouths, as if they were walking into their dreadful nightmare. Reasonably enough, this was not a Michelin star diner, but the food is decent.
She Smelled Something Awful
Brittany had ignored her first findings. She figured she could also make them laugh with her charming personality. And yet she had no idea how entirely wrong she had been. She approached them and also agreed to sell them menus. There wasn’t a hello back when she wanted to hand them menu options. The lady crinkled her nose as if she were smelling something unpleasant. This table was going to be a rough one.
Laughing At Another Customer
She walked away, and when she turned around, she could see the pair watching and laughing at yet another client on the edge of the restaurant. The core of their bile was a regular and often very nice customer.
In Deep Discussion
The pair were deep in conversation and largely unaware that Brittany was waiting next to them on another table. Brittany’s ears twitched and she paid attention to their conversation. She was in utter shock when she heard what they were saying. How could they do anything like that to a person they didn’t even know?
When Brittany went to them to begin approving their applications, they wanted to ask her what she thought of the other client” If she thought it was as terrible and disgusting as they clearly did, they asked Brittany, even questioning why anyone like that would be allowed anywhere near the diner. Their old faces were packed with nothing more than disagreeable judgment.
“I Can’t Serve You”
She replied to the elderly couple before walking away from them, “Sorry, but I can’t serve you. And I’m afraid I have to disagree with what you said.” However, she did not just leave it at that and began asking her boss if the table might otherwise be allocated to any other member of the team. Yet circumstances were just about to get even more tangled.
“Suck It Up Or Go Home”
Her boss continued to refuse, practically having to inform her that she should “suck it up or go home.” Brittany knew that she was unable to begin serving the table with customers who had such terrible opinions on a human being, not even considering trying to make one of her regulars feel really uncomfortable. So she picked up her bag and went through the door barging. But the ramifications of her actions were just about to unfold.
Everybody Is On Her Side
Brittany chose that night after work to post what had just taken place on Facebook. People responded, thanking Brittany for trying to stand up for herself, and many even called the restaurant where the incident occurred. OBrittany let out a sigh of relief as she turned her laptop around and tucked her bed away. There’s someone on her side, she realized.
She Was Fired
The very next day, management told Brittany that she had been fired! Exploding with frustration, she grabbed her laptop and immediately went to Facebook. She updated everyone on the dreadful progress. The reactions were serious. “But my values will always be chosen over money. Hey, see you! “she pointed out. But the founders of the restaurant do have very different views.
Neutral Approach Didn’t Work
The co-owner of the restaurant made a joke that Brittany had been fired because she declined to go and do the job she was assigned to do. She said that during her years in the industry, she got to hear a few conversations that she did not agree with herself, but you just get along and do your work. That being said, the stormy waters were not soothed by their neutral approach.
Brittany, as well as others, said that it was turning a blind eye to allow bigotry to take place with little to no answer in your organization, which she perceives to be the same as simply saying one’s own hurtful things. But Brittany always felt she had made the correct decision. As for the diner’s existing situations as well as principles?
Continue The Same Approach
“Please feel free to leave a review on their Facebook page, Fat Joe’s Bar and Grill.” They received hate that their Facebook page had to be temporarily deleted. Not long after the circumstances made headlines, a handful of in-person protests prompted the diner to contact the police. And after all, they announce that the incident has not changed their daily operations greatly and that they will continue with almost the same moral approach. Yet there was one vital aspect they purposely missed out on which was overlooked by many people.
Just Taking The Order
Brittney acted with enough professional integrity that she asked politely to move tables, which is not exactly a big request. The manager’s initial response (“suck it up”) shows the attitude against their staff member’s comfort, and what about being able to refuse service to customers seeking to impose views on someone who only wants to take their request? And what will they have to say to the owners, both Joe and Whitney Wallander?
