Hours went by, and the day seemed like it was forever. While the students were thrilled to see the new art instructors, Julia felt like she wasn’t making a strong impact that day.

Any 13-year-old who came through the doors to see her had a new opportunity to create an impact, and she felt like she was wasting it. The day was nearly over; she came back, relieved, to her car. She was mortified to see her dress sticking up against her back like a wet cheesecloth. She assured herself that a new day would be tomorrow at least, as she carefully scrubbed it in the sink and hung it to dry.
