In 2015, she did some soul-searching before she decided to make some serious life changes. Katie had to relocate to start a new chapter in her life. It was fortunate that she landed a job offer that sounded like the solution to her problems.

Katie eventually decided that she would relocate to Denver, Colorado. There, she started a job in the world of commercial construction. On paper, her position was an integrated service manager for a construction company called GE Johnson.

Katie felt optimistic about the decision she made. It was high time for her to turn her life around and achieve her goals, after all. She purchased a 4-bedroom ‘fixer-upper’ house that needed a number of renovations, which she decided to take on by herself. “The house I bought would require extensive work to transform into my vision and most of which I would have to do myself in order to afford it,” she said. Katie recalled telling her friend that this huge home was meant for ‘more’, although she had yet to figure out what that meant for her.

Katie knew that renovating her new home required money, but she considered this to be a good thing. She wanted to avoid spending unnecessarily, which meant she would work on the repairs herself. This would keep her focused and occupied as she got the rest of her life on track. She continued, “Baby Girl has a pale white skin tone with straight red-blonde hair.” While the two kids did not look anything alike, Katie could not shake off the feeling that she was onto something.

The woman said that she also gave birth to a boy who she gave up without records. Of course, Katie also took into consideration the fact that this woman had a striking resemblance to her adopted son as well.

Katie asked her some more questions and learned that the woman had a couple of children. She had another baby boy, whom she did not report to the authorities. After the meeting, Katie told the social worker everything she learned. The caseworker eventually confirmed that the last name the birth mother gave matched the last name of someone related to Hannah.

The pieces were finally coming into place, but they had to wait for one more test that would confirm her hunch. Soon enough, the results of a DNA test revealed that Hannah and Grayson were siblings with the same birth mother!!!!

So, when Hannah asked her to do her hair, Katie was more than happy to do it! “Today was one I dreamed about and have waited for. Miss Hannah wanted her hair curled just like mamas… and she sat so still and patiently for me (which is VERY hard for a 2 yo) while I curled her hair. I know it marks the first of many of these moments (I pray) in which we get to have special mama daughter moments,” Katie wrote.

Meanwhile, Grayson has turned three and will attend preschool soon. He has become a social butterfly who enjoys meeting other people. He now wears glasses to help fix his lazy eye, probably a side effect from being exposed to substances in utero, and we think they are just adorable on him!

Just recently, Katie made a post on Instagram that talked about another addition to the family. In the captions, Katie said, “While I can’t share his face as I vowed never to post him on social media so I could get him to take a photo with me, I can share how grateful I am for him.” It turns out that Katie and the mystery man had been seeing each other for a year after they met through a pastor. He has been supporting her through the “craziness of foster care” and the surprise addition to their family. We are glad to hear that Katie has this man whom she can turn to for support!

Once Grayson decided he’s too big to sleep in his crib, it was time for him to get a big boy bed! Katie made sure to get him a nice one so he wants to sleep in it. But alas, it was a little difficult getting Grayson to his new bed. However, Katie still saw the bed as a success. She even posted this to her Instagram: “I think it’s safe to say the toddlers like Grayson‘s new big boy bed… Or at least the bed we are trying to convert Grayson into since he’s decided the crib is no longer an option.”

She was so proud of this accomplishment, she couldn’t help but share her success on social media. “And I snagged the second photo of all five of us almost a year after the first… I will take what I can get and always keep my promise not to show my guy’s face (thank goodness he’s SO tall). Grateful for this crazy crew of mine! Note: we even all match for a Sunday service… he’s a keeper for not finding my love of coordinating outfits with my kids annoying. Parenthood is defintely something that came naturally for Katie. She couldn’t get enough of her kids. Every single moment made her swell with pride and gratitude. It was incredible how far she’s come in the past few years, and she wanted to share her story with the world.
